Dr. Kirk Sachtler

Our Staff

Dr. Sachtler is one of the highest credentialed therapists in Nevada and has been at the cutting edge of physical therapy and natural therapies ever since graduating from Boston University 26 years ago. During that time he has completed Manual Therapy programs at the North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy and the URSA Foundation of Osteopathic Manual Practice. He is a Certified Orthopedic Specialist (twice), a Certified Manual Therapist, and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. In 2005, he completed his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from A.T. Still University, the first Osteopathic University in the country. He is also a Certified practitioner of Dry Needling, an evidence-based form of Acupuncture.

Dr. Sachtler studies and uses numerous hands-on therapies in his practice including: evidence-based joint manipulation (incl spinal jts), myofascial release and stretching techniques, advanced exercise and movement training, dry needling, orthotic fabrication, and cold laser. He is the only Primal Reflex Release practitioner in Reno and one of the few certified Dry Needling practitioners in the Reno/Tahoe region. He has also pioneered a unique “Whole Body Approach” to patient care, which has helped countless patients with chronic pain and other seemingly insurmountable problems return to happy and productive lives.

An experienced athlete, he won several varsity letters in NCAA tennis and competed at the semi-pro level; he raced on his college ski team; and has run the Boston Marathon. A longtime adventurer, he has ridden the Markleeville Deathride numerous times, run around Lake Tahoe, climbed many big mountains such as Whitney and Shasta, learned how to fly gliders and small planes, and earned a 2nd degree Blackbelt in Jujitsu. He has also been a volunteer ski patrol at Alpine Meadows for 25 years. No stranger to mishaps, Kirk also has had to deal with numerous injuries and surgeries which have given him an empathetic insight into the pain and disability that patients often experience.

Dr. Sachtler’s experience spans nearly every field of physical therapy. He has been a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and its Orthopedic Section for over 25 years, and the American Academy of Orthopedic Physical Therapists since its inception in 1992.

Dr. Katie Manning, PT, DPT

Our Staff

Dr. Manning believes in a ‘hands-on’ approach to therapy and continues to expand her manual skills knowledgebase. She is passionate about giving her patients the tools to maintain all gains made during her care and always provides them with a detailed home treatment program. She enjoys working with clients of all varieties, from all age groups to different body regions and pathologies. Athletics are a strong background for Katie as she played collegiate softball and basketball during her undergraduate studies. She has coached women’s softball and basketball at the high school level, and has an aptitude for sports related injuries.

Since graduating with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Nevada Las Vegas, she has been in practice for 8 years. She is currently board eligible for a Specialty in Orthopedics and is also a certified clinical instructor, taking on physical therapy students during their clinical affiliations.

Katie has called Reno her home for the past five years and continues to love all of the outdoor activities the Sierras have to offer. In her off time, Katie enjoys wakeboarding, skiing and boating in the summer, camping and hiking in the fall, and snowboarding in the winter. Her husband is a local native and career NV Air National Guard pilot and they just welcomed their first child, Lanie earlier this year.

Dr. Kevin Kuhns, PT, DPT

Dr. Kuhns earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Montana in 2015 and since then has focused on the study and practice of Advanced Manual Therapy techniques, particularly those from Osteopathic manual medicine.

Dr. Kuhns brings a varied background to the clinic. He is an accomplished big wall rockclimber, a paraglider, a musician, and a certified ski instructor for both able- bodied and those with impairments. These activities which require a very high level of skill and calm under pressure have given Kevin the ability to think outside the box and develop unique problem solving skills. When not helping his patients or adventuring, Kevin likes to spend time with his family, trying to keep up with wife Amy and daughter Elwin.

Dr. Kuhns has a passion for helping his patients return to the lifestyle they’re accustomed to, and at a far better level than even they expected!

Dr. Brooke Smith, PT, DPT

Our Staff

Dr. Smith earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Rosalind Franklin University of Illinois in 2016. Prior to this, she earned a degree in Communications from the University of Illinois and had a career as a helicopter pilot. For ten years she was a commissioned officer in the Army piloting Blackhawk helicopters. After her military career, she flew tours of the Grand Canyon, news and traffic for Las Vegas NBC, did oil platform work off the coast of California, and lastly flew Air ambulance in the California Cental Valley.

In addition, Brooke is an outdoor adventurer regularly traveling with her trusty Bernese Mountain Dog, Ben. She enjoys hiking, biking, camping, sky diving, and rock climbing, and is also a musician. As you might surmise from this complex background, Dr. Smith has developed excellent problem solving skills and the ability to creatively think outside the box in order to help her patients. She has experience with some of the most cutting edge technologies in rehabilitation today in addition to continuing to pursue advanced training in manual therapy techniques.

Dr. Smith’s goal is for her patients to recover faster and better than they had ever imagined possible.

Mischelle has been with Performance since its very beginning. She is our expert in all things insurance and keeps our clinic running smoothly. She will happily assist you with any of your questions and will put a smile on your face.

Our support team is composed of exceptional students whose goal is to become a physical therapist. Our current group includes: Lucas, Matt, Britney, and Katie.
